The competition is also open to indie writers working up to their debut publication. The competition is not open to writers who are solely by the “big five” major publishing houses. They get enough support.

Terms and Conditions

Entrants must meet the eligibility criteria described above.

Entrants retain all rights to their work.

Short stories must be the legitimate work of the author submitting the entry.

Short stories must be written in English and be between 2000 and 6000 words.

Short stories must not be subject to any current or legacy publishing agreement that prevents them from being published on the Indipenned website.

All submitted information may be processed for purposes of administering the competition and conducting related publicity relating to the competition.

All information submitted in connection with the competition will be treated in accordance with the Indipenned website terms and conditions including its privacy policy.

All entries must be posted as a short story on the Indipenned website against the entrants Creator profile.

The short list of entries progressing to judging by human beings will be selected using Indipenned’s secret internal page ranking algorithm. Any attempts to manipulate this algorithm will result in disqualification.

The £1000 GBP winning prize is dependent on the competition receiving a minimum of 20 entries. In the event that fewer than 20 entries are received the prize money will be reduced proportionally, i.e. if 5 entries are received the winning entry will receive £250 GBP.

The winning entry will be announced on the Indipenned website on 1st April 2020.

The closing date for entries is 31st January 2020.

Failure to meet any of these terms and conditions will result in disqualification.

Indipenned’s decision is final on everything.

Other Stuff to Note

Indipenned will promote entries to the Indipenned 2020 Short Story competition across the Indipenned website and social media. This will help Indipenned’s internal page ranking algorithm to identify the short list of entries that will progress to human judging. This algorithm, among other things, uses page views and likes to determine the prominence of the content displayed on the site and allows the cream to rise.

If you would like to give your short story the best chance of making the short list, then it's a good idea to give your submission a push on your website, blog and/or social media accounts. Use the hashtag #indi20 and we will try and lend a hand with this.

Good luck!
